Vzaar is an eBay application that specializes in allowing you to insert videos into your eBay auctions. Videos provide a great way to instill confidence in your buyers and showcase your products in a unique way. When it comes to creating and embedding a video it could be argued that Vzaar is the most robust option available. Vzaar offers the user 4 differant video sizes and even the option to upload high definition videos. With select packages you will have the option to unbrand the player and add your own text to the player, and you can even choose different color and border schemes. If you prefer to upload your video in its original form to prevent quality loss during encoding Vzaar leaves that option up to you.
Inserting your videos into your auctions can be done in two ways. You can either embed your videos with a click of a button in which case the video will appear in the in the top center of the listing, or you can manually embed a snippet of code provided by Vzaar into your auction. This provides more flexibility as to where the video will end up and the dimensions of the player. If you decide that you want to change your video or delete it you can make either happen with a click of the mouse.
Vzaar is free to use as long as you keep your bandwidth under 1gb per month. Bandwidth is defined as the amount of data that is being transferred, so the more videos that you are displaying and are being viewed the more bandwidth you will use. You can plan on getting 350-400 minutes of video transfer for every GB. This is a number that can vary depending on video quality (HD takes more bandwidth) and encoding/ file type. I have to admit I wasn't real excited when I found out about the Vzaar app. The first thing I thought of was, "what about sites like YouTube and Blip.tv that offer video uploading for free?". I am not arguing the fact that videos are a great addition to auctions, I am just not so sure I am eager to pay for this type of service. In fact I know from personal experience that videos sell. Recently I purchased an RC helicopter for my son(and me) on eBay and the one with the video sold me. Unfortunately I haven't found it in me to create my own videos, maybe out of fear that I will sound like a used car salesmen.
All jokes aside. I am not saying Vzaar is a bad application, I am just saying you can get similar features from other sites for free. With that being said Vzaar does have a free option and that might be more than enough for many sellers. If that is the case, I highly recommend using the service. There is undoubtedly no better way to insert a video into your auction than Vzaar. With services such as Blip.tv or YouTube you will be forced to manually insert code snippets into your auction. Vzaar has the option to take all guesswork out of this work and makes adding videos to auctions as easy as selecting active or scheduled auctions and clicking "single" or "multiple" embed.
As with every app I have to add my two cents for improvement. One thing I think that they should do away with is the upload limit. Currently free users are limited to only 500 MB uploads and this just seems to complicate things. Another thing I didn't like were all of the different subscription tiers. I think 7 subscription tiers is too many and it should be cut down to no more than 4.
This review is in no way a negative review. I think the Vzaar system is a great system and you can tell that the developers put a lot of time and energy into its development. It is just hard to compete in the age of YouTube where unlimited video uploading and bandwidth is free. However if you are not going to be doing a lot of videos or want some of the nifty features such as auto add and adding text or links to your video Vzaar is definitely worth looking into.
